theory of human beings

I tend to vascilate between two theories, regarding people in general. They are; people are genuinly good, and people are selfish. I have recently come to a "happy medium" although happy is a relative term. I believe that most people genuinly WANT to do good for others, but in the end, selfishness prevails. We are a people of insecurities and greed. I think that if I could move, I would. We are a race (human race, that is) of appearences and followers. We are not confident enough and proud enough of our own values and feeligns to stand up for them. We thyink them silently and then do what others do in hopes of being accepted. We are two-faced. We tend to act the ways others do in hopes of blending. People do not want to stand out.  It's sickening.

What happened to your other theory about society being doomed? Are you getting soft on me?

No Joe - that theory still stands. Society is doomed because of the way the people within it are. Both theories tie togehter nicely and are in complete correlation with one another.

Meg, I have offered my opinion about humans, countelss number times; and you know what? Honestly, no offense to either of us, but no one gives a s**t.

Why does no one give a s**t? Because, what are they to do about the innateness of mankind? Nothing.

It's fine to be frustrated that people are they way they are, but there's no stopping it. That won't stop me from periodically ventng my frustrationg to my little corner of the virtual world.

The most important thing you will even learn in psychology is that people are very, VERY capable liars. They will lie if they have to, when they have to... and that's the truth. People will even lie to themselves!

Personally (with a few minor exceptions), I never put anything past anyone no matter how close they are. People never cease to amaze me. Mother's drowning babies, husbands killing wives, I mean... come on. What's to trust? But like I said, I make a few exceptions. I let certain people in; I think you have to.

You might call it paranoia. But it's not that I think people are out to get me, personally. I just think certain people are all too capable of doing "whatever it takes".

The "id" is primitive and never matures. It's sole purpose is to fullfill the pleasure principle: that is to seek pleasure and avoid pain.

I think the "id" has a stonger influence than people like to think.

i think many different cultures offer different explanations to the state of mankind.  psychologists refer to the 'id' somewhat similarly to what christians call 'the flesh'.

some believe a somewhat heavenly coexistance can be attained here on earth, some believe earth is bound over to futility just like man is.

i make no mistake.  I am a liar.  I lie to myself at times.  I am a cheater.  I'll cheat and not even realize it.  I'm a hater.  I'm a violent person.  I'm a maniupator.  etc...  I will do all these things at one time or another, regardless of whether i want to do it or not.  It's in my nature.  It's in all of our natures.

But the funny thing is that everyone realizes this is imperfection.  that there is SOME sort of taint in humanity.  a darkness.  a "sin nature,"  or whatever.  The idea that man is broken and needs to be fixed permeates societies.  Why else would we go to psychiatrists and psychologists to prescribe us this and that and this other thing?  It's interesting that we are trying to fix ourselves and eachother, yet never being able to do so because even the "fixers" are bound over into this same futility that we all share in.

Now, you and everyone else who reads this know where i stand on things like this, but i want to respect you by not quoting scripture or whatever on your site here.  So if you or anybody else is interested, im going to tackle this on my site and you're welcome to read it.  it is my opinion.  but i'd rather do it on my site and have people come to me than for it to look like im out forcing myself on you or anyone else.
